It is the second suspension for Moore, who, in 2003, was removed for refusing to take down a monument of the Ten Commandments he installed at a state building. He has now been suspend again for the remainder of his term without pay. Moore is known for his opposition to homosexuality, which he calls an inherent evil.
Reacting to the decision, Moore said in a statement:
“This was a politically motivated effort by radical homosexual and transgender groups to remove me as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court because of my outspoken opposition to their immoral agenda.”
